G-Fest 14 has come and gone. Unfortunately, not everything went as planned this year. It was a series of mishaps rather than the big event that we had envisioned. A number of technical difficulties had put the production behind schedule unexpectedly, so Franz made the judgment call to miss the first day of the convention and continue working on the presentation. Despite the effort, GZH Episode One was unable to be completed due to frequent computer meltdowns. In the end, we had a good 16 or so minutes of human footage footage to show. We decided to use this inconvenience to our advantage by using it as an extended preview and include a montage of monster footage at the end. In lieu of all the production chaos, things has turned out okay... The presentation itself was another story. It took place in the Main Hall at the hotel and unfortunately we were not given a proper audio and visual setup. We were told by the person in charge of the equipment that we "couldn't" have the lights turned off or the sound turned up. This made the picture, which was already a bit blurry from the projection virtually invisible. Carefully color corrected footage was reduced to a picture so dark that you could barley see the actors in some scenes, and the dialogue was hard to hear throughout the whole presentation. This made the production appear to be cheap and very amateurish after all the hard post work that was put into it. After a sixteen minutes that felt more like sixteen hours, Apollo took the stage to play a set. Though things began slow, with a delayed setup, they managed to prevail in the end with a nice after-show concert. Though this may sound somewhat dismal, our session was not a complete failure. The presentation was met with a great amount of enthusiasm from the crowd. Throughout the weekend, many many people had nothing but great and encouraging things to say to the whole Zero Hour crew. Everybody we heard from liked what they saw and were anxious to see the final product, and that's the most important part of the whole thing. The following Sunday, we had a Q&A session downstairs that had a nicely sized crowd and we were met with even more enthusiasm and plenty of questions from other G-Fans. Next year we will have much more to show the fans, and we WILL have a better presentation of our achievements no matter what we have to do.
